Wow! I had the rare good fortune to be on Flamenco Beach while this massive female leatherback sea turtle was laying her eggs and heading back to the ocean.
Want to experience nature and the Caribbean the way it was meant to be? Come see us in Culebra!
Someone recently dropped eleven puppies (yes 11) on the road out to Zoni Beach. They have been recovered by Animal Welfare of Culebra and Terrie took them to the vet in Fajardo yesterday.
All eleven pups managed to get their first round of vaccines and were checked out by Dr. Delgado and deemed healthy.
The rescued puppies will be looking for new homes! If you’re interested you can call Terrie here at the Palmetto and if you would like to help defray some of the medical expenses you can donate to Animal Welfare of Culebra.
We returned home from Nicaragua a couple of weeks ago to discover some large holes that looked like land mines had gone off in our backyard. Turns out, during our absence, a Culebra land crab had decided to take up residence.
Luckily, we put Julien (local Culebra guy who makes announcements out of his red truck) on the task of catching our new “guest”. ..
Zoni Beach on Culebra is a nesting ground for leatherback turtles. Here are some photos from former guests who had the good fortune to be at Zoni the day this female came in to lay her eggs.
Ralf and Melanie came all the way from Germany and stayed with us recently for a number of nights at the Palmetto Guesthouse. Before coming to Culebra they were on a Caribbean cruise and decided to end their holiday with us.
Ralf and Melanie thought that Culebra was just the right size. Any smaller and the island would be too small, but any bigger and Culebra would lose its feel and special ambiance. And their favorite place to eat was El Batey.
Thank you Melanie and Ralf for staying with us. Safe travels back to Germany!
